DVM Publications specializes in engraving music for music publishers. Our projects in the past few years have included orchestral works, choral/orchestral music, over 100 works for solo piano, over 100 choral octavos, works for solo voice, popular songbooks, elementary music textbooks, and thousands of music examples for books (including Christopher Hasty's Meter as Rhythm, a massive set of examples spanning every musical style from Gregorian Chant to Boulez, done for Oxford University Press). In recent years we have prepared a number of works in PDF format, for publication on the web.
Although over 95% of our work is done for publication, we do occasionally prepare works for orchestral performance without publication.
When Hal Leonard Publishing needed their 70 page Get America Singing. . . songbook (co-sponsored by MENC) done quickly and accurately, they called us--and we delivered final prints for vocal and piano/vocal books in three weeks.
We have been awarded ten Paul Revere Awards (the "Academy Awards" for music engraving--given by the Music Publishers Association) in three different categories in the past 15 years, including one for both music examples and book design on Gerre Hancock's Improvising, done for Oxford University Press, and a pair for own managing editor's book Music Engraving Today, published by Brichtmark Music.
We are expert users of MakeMusic's Finale, Avid's Sibelius, Adobe's InDesign, and Fontlab's Fontographer, and we are experienced at all facets of desktop publishing. We are always happy to provide examples of our work, or industry references.
We can provide rush service when necessary--although our regular service includes one month turnaround for first drafts and 48 hour turnaround for corrected drafts. We do give discounted rates for material submitted on disk (in MIDI or Finale format) and our regular rates are competitive. Our goal is always to give publishers a mistake-free, readable print with the fewest pages possible.
